Nothing is worse than using an old toilet, (even some of the newer ones), that are far too short for comfort. Having your knees under your chin is hardly what anyone wants. Well, having tried a couple of other elevated toilet seats in the past that were far from sanitary, difficult to clean, and less than stable in the way they were attached and locked to the toilet. Those other models were also difficult to use by having to decide if you were going to do one or another. Doing both at one time was nearly impossible. There was lots of leakage and just totally messy to use those units. WELL, I've been looking at this toilet seat riser for some time and now that we own it, we're only sorry we didn't switch much sooner. It fits securily, gives comparable elevation to other units after you factor in that you can have an actual toilet seat again too. It's very comfortable, very sanitary and so much easier to clean up than any of the others we've used, even if you're having a particularly bad day. We have an old toilet with a strange bulge on the left side of the bowl, so we had to make a trip to the hardware store to get shorter bolts in order to attach the unit, (1/2" shorter worked perfectly for us), but otherwise it was very easy to set it up. Give this seat a try, I assure you that you'll be as impressed as we were. Especially if you've had experience with some of those other inferior seat risers out there.

My toilet seat LOOKS like it's an "elongated" one, so I bought the elongated riser, but, guess what? Mine is evidently a "round" seat, because the riser extends 2" beyond the seat in front. This round riser is supposedly 20.4" long, yet the elongated riser I just installed (same Maddak model but for "size") is only 19.75" (I just measured it). Other reviewers: please measure your "round" riser's length and let us know the actual size.Installation was OK, but why the "slotted" head bolts instead of "Philips" head? It's frustrating using a slotted screwdriver, especially on a 5" long bolt ... that's why Philips heads were invented. Also, the bolt head is so big and tall that the plastic cover won't snap over it. A little bit of care about quality might have provided a proper bolt head size and type, but who cares, right?As for the issue in other comments about cleanliness, the best way to insure it is to use a hand steamer to clean the bowl, the riser, and the seat, including the spaces under and between them. This cleans AND kills bacteria. Here's a good one I just bought from Amazon: Handheld Steam CleanerBTW, Maddak is the ONLY manufacturer that makes these "hinged" risers (that I could find), and, for some reason, their product is listed in Amazon under various names (Ableware, Active Forever, etc.) and for various prices. If it's on Amazon and it's a hinged riser, it's the same Maddak product, so shop smart! To find ALL of them on Amazon, search for "toilet seat elevators" - who'd have known?

I have my 101 blind Mother-in-law and my 95 year old Father living with my husband and me. We have purchased two of these seats and I cannot express how much they have eased our life. We would have to go into the bathroom and lift them up off the toilet, now that is a thing of the past. The seat is so convenient and easy to clean, I can't imagine doing without it.
