The combination of the Waterpik Ultra and Periogen are a tough removal system to fight plaque. I purchased this system in order to remove heavy plaque. I got tired of being told I had to pay extra $$ for deep cleanings at my dentist. I also hate flossing. The Waterpik Ultra is a lightweight, somewhat compact unit. It has settings from 1 to 10 and comes with several heads to use for cleanings. Since I am using it with Periogen for plaque removal, you only need setting number 1 and the pocket pik head. The Periogen is incredible! It comes with a small blue spoon for measuring. For tough plaque removal, you simply add 2 to 3 spoonfuls to the warm water in the Waterpik tank. It will fizzle and dissolve in the water in a few minutes. For me it was odorless and tasteless, some have had some taste issues. I have had none. I felt results after the first application. I felt the heavier deposits becoming rougher, as they are being broken up and dissolved. After several days, the tooth surfaces start to feel smoother. The water flossing really makes your teeth feel clean. The tougher plaque may take up to 8 weeks to remove with persistent applications (using a little more Periogen). After the major deposits have been removed, you can go back to occasional use of Periogen (1 capful) to keep plaque at bay. Using the Waterpik and Periogen system is much more pleasant that sitting in a dentist chair while they pick and scrape and charge extra $$$ for deep cleanings. I wasn't sure how I would like the water flossing, but I have found it is very pleasant and really gets your teeth extra clean. You should water floss before you brush your teeth. Brushing afterwards keeps your teeth extra clean. I use an Oral B Pro 5000 series toothbrush and it works very well with the Periogen starter kit. I highly recommend this system as the Periogen chemically removes the plaque much faster than the awful scraping and can help keep it at bay with continued use. I highly recommend this set to protect your teeth and keep them clean and plaque free!

I started using Periogen about halfway through my 4 month recall on periodontal cleaning. I used it about half the time for about 7 weeks. I had been on a 4 month recall for the last three cleanings because of inflammation and pocket depth. At this cleaning, there was much less buildup and fewer areas with pockets and pocket depth decreased. Because of the improvement, I was moved to a 6 month recall and told by the doctor to, "Keep doing what I'm doing." That saves me $130 since my insurance only covers two cleanings per year. I didn't tell them at this visit that I had started using Periogen because I want to use it daily for the 6 month interval and really get their attention.

I've been using this product for a few months now, and can't say I've noticed a difference. But I'll keep plugging along, and perhaps it will kick in (at least to a point that I can tell it's working).
